Daniel who?!

Hurricane Daniel passed by last night and unless you looked at the ocean you wouldn’t have known.  This morning I showed up to work and it was turning into a nice day without the mugginess.  Around mid-morning a few windsurfers came out to enjoy the nice NW winds hovering just below 15 mph.  Our former instructor, Alexis, was out there having a great time.  When I finally got on the water I just couldn’t get that board on a plane.  I swear I’m going to lose weight this winter.

This is the competition?!

I had a customer come in the shop and tell me a great story. Apparently he was at a competitor’s shop and when he walked in he noticed the girl behind the counter counting her end of day cash deposit. Being the quick witted New Yorker the customer says, “I’m the new manager and I’m here to pick up the deposit.” She being a not so bright but eager employee says, “Oh, okay. Let me get a bag for you.”

The man could have walked out of there with over a thousand dollars and not even drawn a weapon. Fortunately, he was more honest than she was smart.

The man’s comment to me was, “I think they’re smoking weed over there.” And yet they’re still in business.

Some things to get excited about.

Yesterday (Saturday, 8/15) we had a nice Demo Day at East Beach in Norfolk, VA.  East Beach is a great community surrounded by water.  Little Creek on one side and the Chesapeake Bay on the other.  They always do an outstanding job when it comes to social events; adding the food, music, and nice people.

We brought some Hobie boats to try out; the Getaway, Wave, Bravo, and Adventure Island.  In addition, we brought some stand-up paddleboards (SUP).  I can tell the SUPs are getting more interest by the amount of questions we get.  Several people tried them and we got a lot of positive feeback with them.

In the end it was a beautiful day for sailing and a great venue for demos.  Hopefully, we’ll be back next year.

In other news, we’re relocating our Norfolk Hobie dealership from Dolphin Marine to Little Creek Marina.  Brian Baker, the general manager, is extremely excited to have us in there and we only have to move across the creek to our new site.  I ask that you please bear with us as we make the transition and train new people.

For those of you looking for a deal on a Hobie Cat we are now taking deposits on our renal fleet boats.  Please call for prices and details.  252-441-2756
